Solar Power FAQ

Solar Power FAQ

Why Solar Panel Power?

Solar power can save you $$$, provide you energy, and take advantage of solar rebates, adding value to your home or business while reducing your carbon footprint.

Solar power is the cleanest, most viable form of renewable energy available. Solar panels, convert sunlight into electricity.

Is this subsidy in danger of ending soon, or being scrapped entirely?

The current legislation means that the solar rebate started to reduce by one fifteenth annually in Jan 2017 and this continues until it is completely phased out in 2030.

Although no current legislation exists to scrap the scheme it is at the mercy of our lawmakers and directly tied to STC price which fluctuates based on current demand.

Is battery storage an option for my home?

Yes. The technology has developed quickly over the past few years and prices have fallen, adding a battery to a system allows for increased system size and ultimately increased savings over the life of the system. What is a grid connect solar power system?

Grid connect systems, which are the most common in built-up areas, supply solar electricity through an inverter directly to the household and export to the electricity grid if the system is providing more energy than the house needs.

When power is supplied to the mains grid, the homeowner receives a credit or a payment for that electricity, providing the system is no larger than 6.6KW. This is called a feed-in tariff.

What can affect the amount of solar energy received?

The strength of the solar energy (radiation) available depends on the time of year, the time of day, and the latitude of the generation point.

The amount of energy that the system generates can change due to:

  • The Quality of the solar Modules.
  • The Quality of the Solar Inverter.
  • Panel cleanliness. Panels need to be regularly cleaned.
  • Cloud cover and available sunlight.
  • Shading of the solar panels.

Does roof orientation really matter?

Yes. A system with solar panels facing in a southerly direction will generate far less than one with a northerly aspect.

However, east/west installations can be a good option depending on the installation scenario and power consumption.

How much does a grid connect solar power setup cost?

Prices vary according to size and location and most importantly – Quality.

Other factors influencing system cost are a type of installation, single or multi-storey & type of power supply, single or three-phase.

What size system will I need to run my home?

That entirely depends on your energy usage and your geographical location.

Any size grid-connect solar power system will reduce your yearly power consumption and your power bill. Naturally, the bigger the system, the bigger the benefit.

To make the most of solar power, the key is to implement simple energy efficiency strategies. It is easy to conserve energy by using appropriate lighting and efficient appliances. Running high power appliances such as electric heating systems, air conditioners, pool pumps and bore pumps during the peak daylight hours will allow you to receive maximum benefit from the solar power you generate.

Your daily energy usage will determine the size of your solar power system required.

How long will my grid connect solar power system last?

The life of Solar modules greatly depends on the quality of the module, small reductions in power output is common after 15 years, mostly because the glass surface becomes a bit dull and reflects more light.

All our solar panels carry an output warranty of 25 years. There are solar panels delivering power in Australia today that were installed more than 30 years ago.

The most sensitive electronic components such as inverters will typically last 10 -15 years.
